It may be called Greedy Associates, but this blog is geared toward law students, too. After all, if students work really hard, brush their teeth, and say their prayers, they too can have the privilege of billing 2,000 hours a year and getting yelled at by senior partners.
Law school rankings were chief among our most popular law school posts in 2014. Sprinkled among those were some other posts, like preparing for the rigors of law school life.
Top 5 Cheapest Law Schools (And 5 More Worth Attending) – Even sub-par law schools can cost upwards of $30,000 per year. Some schools are pretty OK and still fairly cheap, like Brigham Young University, which was the second-cheapest, according to U.S. News, even though it was ranked No. 44.
5 Things You Need to Buy Before Starting 1L Year in Law School – Those new students must have wondered, because this was our third most popular law school post. We basically advised what you’d expect:a laptop, study supplements, and a nice bookbag that can fit those giant casebooks.
This Is How a Top Law School Plummets 17 Spots in the Rankings – FindLaw blogger William Peacock was quite distressed to find that Washington and Lee, his alma mater, fell 17 spots in March. What did it? The employment numbers. W&L’s numbers for 2012 graduates employed full-time in law practice jobs fell under 50 percent.
10 Regrets About Going to Law School: Part I – “Of all the words of quill or pen, the saddest are these: ‘It could have been.’” Just because we made mistakes doesn’t mean you have to, too. Learn from us and pick the right law school, see the world before you go, and for crying out loud, learn what lawyers actually do so you don’t spend $100,000 on education for a job you’re going to hate.
Law School Rankings Are Out. How Is Your School Ranked? – The Top 10 rankings were basically what you’d expect, but the more important question is, what do you want in a law school? Going to a school that has the opportunities you want in a place you like is more important than making sure you get into Harvard.
‘Second Best’ Law School in the Country Cuts 1L Class at One Campus – The year was not pleasant for Cooley Law School, the self-proclaimed second-best law school in the country. Cooley closed several campuses and actually cut the entire 1L class at its flagship campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
10 Regrets About Going to Law School: Part II – In the second part of our depressing law school series, we focused on the classes you should have taken and all the connections you should have made while you had the chance.
Where Did Ally McBeal Go to Law School? 9 Fictional TV Lawyers’ Alma Maters – And now for something a little lighter: Would you believe both Ally and Matlock wore Harvard crimson? Matlock really played up that “simple country lawyer” routine to his advantage.
#DearFindLaw: Best Law School Backpacks, Buying or Renting Books – From our #DearFindLaw series, a prospective 1L asks what type of backpack is the best (definitely a backpack, not one of those messenger bags). We also recommend buying books the first year and then renting them later on.
And speaking of #DearFindLaw, we need your questions! If you have any about law school, legal practice, or the job market, tweet us @FindLawLP using the hashtag #DearFindLaw.
