Texas Tech head coach was recently handed walking papers
This comes on the heels of his suspension based on complaints that he mishandled a concussion suffered by player Adam James, son of ESPN college football analyst Craig James.
Now, the situation has quickly gotten legal, as Leach was fired before a judge had ruled on his request for a temporary restraining order in hopes of being able to coach in Saturday’s Alamo Bowl against Michigan State.

Liggett believes the case gained media attention only because James’ father is prominent former SMU and NFL player Craig James. Craig James currently is a college football analyst for ESPN.
Leach’s contract was for five years and $12.7 million. Leach coached 10 seasons at Tech and produced an 84-43 record while taking the Raiders to a bowl game in all 10 seasons. He is the school’s all-time winningest coach and consistently has one of the best graduation rates in the country.
Under terms of his contract, Leach was due an $800,000 bonus if he was still the Raiders’ head coach.
However, the Raiders must pay Leach $1.6 million – or $400,000 for each of the four years remaining on his contract.
Also, defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill was named interim coach of the Red Raiders.
