If you try to kill someone, blame it on a board game. It’s the best defense ever.

Or not. A 15-year-old boy in Weslaco, Texas, has been charged with attempted murder and is accused of stabbing a friend with a 4-inch knife. When asked about his motivation, he claimed the Ouija board told him to do it.

After further investigation into the Ouija board stabbing, police realized that the board game operates on teenage logic. It allegedly told the suspect that his friend was the cause of all of his problems, and then advised him to kill the friend.

Remorse must have set in quickly, as Reuters reports the suspect carried the victim to a nearby auto shop to seek help. The boy spent three days in an intensive care unit, but is otherwise doing fine.

Officers have said that the teen has no history of mental illness. A witness to the stabbing also claims the suspect urged the victim to pretend that he had fallen on the knife. These facts suggest that the teen may have a hard time winning with any sort of insanity defense.

The suspect was lucid enough to seek help and urge his friend to cover up his crime. He also appears to have known that his actions were wrong. If anything, the Ouija board stabbing suspect was probably just looking for a way to justify his negative feelings toward his friend.
