There’s no doubt about the fact that law school is expensive. Most law students have to take out student loans in order to afford it. To reduce the financial burden, most students will seek out summer work, and many students will also explore working during the school year. Although going to law school full-time leaves very little time for anything else, working a part-time job, particularly a legal job, is possible, and even good for your resume, especially if you can keep your grades up too....

The retirements of Hon. Ann O’Regan Keary and Hon. Harold L. Cushenberry, Jr. from the DC Superior Court leave vacancies that the Judicial Nomination Commission is eager to fill. The Commission recently forwarded a list of nominees to President Obama. Ralph C. In Episode 37 of Seinfeld, “The Letter,” which first aired in 1992, Elaine was kicked out of a Yankees game for wearing a Baltimore Orioles baseball hat in the Yankees owner’s box. It seemed fairly unlikely that someone would be kicked out of a game just for wearing a hat, but it made for good TV. However Renee Gork, an Arkansas sports radio reporter, upped the ante when she was fired for wearing a Florida hat to Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino’s press conference....

A magic tricks (or “illusion” if you prefer) ceases to be magic if the audience knows how it works. And the trick ceases to be valuable to the magician who invented it if other magicians can just steal it. So what kind of legal protections do magicians have against the exposure or theft of tricks illusions? Not many. The courts, thus far, have not been too permissive when it comes to patenting or copyrighting magic tricks....

In a class action suit brought by employees against the Costco Wholesale Corporation alleging the corporation misclassified some of its managers as exempt employees and therefore failed to pay them overtime wages, trial court’s directions ordering a referee to conduct an in camera review of an opinion letter sent by outside counsel to Costco and allowing the referee to redact the letter to conceal that portion he believed to be privileged, and requiring Costco to disclose the remainder to the opposing party, is reversed as the trial court’s directions and order violated the attorney-client privilege, as well as the statutory prohibition against requiring disclosure of information claimed to be subject to the attorney-client privilege in order to rule on a claim of privilege....

An angry father is suing Sprint, alleging that the “new” phone he purchased for his son at a Sprint store came pre-loaded with nude photos of the store’s employees. Arsen Garibyan purchased the phone in 2011 from a Sprint store in Pasadena, and did not discover the pornographic photos until his underage son had unpackaged the phone and asked “Daddy, what is this?,” Los Angeles’ KNX Radio reports. Garibyan did not consider this clothesless content amusing, and he sued both Sprint and Nextel of California on his son’s behalf....

“Just because you saw a season of Grey’s Anatomy doesn’t mean you could practice medicine,” the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office tweeted after arresting a Florida teen at his medical clinic last week. Malachi Love-Robinson was charged with practicing medicine without a license, according to United Press International. This week Love-Robinson was also charged with grand theft and forgery for stealing from one of his elderly patients, according to ABC News....

We’ve all suspected for a while now that Airbnb is decreasing the housing stock in San Francisco, where housing units are a precious asset. Though Airbnb either disputes the claim or says it’s not a big deal, investigations by the San Francisco Chronicle suggest that Airbnb hosts in San Francisco aren’t just renting a room in their apartment or renting the apartment when they’re not there; a significant number of hosts may be leasing a totally separate apartment from where they live as a side business....

Don’t try to understand this story. I don’t have the answers and after reading this, neither will you. It goes something like this: Daniela Gaskie (now former) Miss Kentucky Latina, allegedly beat up a woman and stabbed a man in the neck with a ball-point pen. Gaskie, 22, was arrested in Richmond, after the violent attacks on a gas station attendant and a pharmacist. According to police, Gaskie became enraged at a gas station attendant and then stabbed him in the neck with a pen....

Like the NFL, the NBA has pretty strict rules when it comes to player uniforms. Shorts can’t be too baggy, shirts must stay tucked in, no tights allowed (compression sleeves are OK), and if you’re going to wear a headband, it must be a league-issued headband and not inside out or upside down. And NBA players, due to the nature of those uniforms, have some of the most prominently displayed tattoos in sports....

In plaintiff’s suit on behalf of her deceased husband against his former employer claiming that his brain tumor was caused by exposure to toxic chemicals while working for Technicolor, plaintiff’s petition challenging an order sustaining defendant’s demurrer to a claim that plaintiff was injured by exposure to toxic chemicals and vapors on her husband’s clothing and person that he brought home is denied where Technicolor does not owe plaintiff a duty of due care, as plaintiff’s attempts to state a cause of action fall short of the Rowland criteria....

All’s fair in love and war. OKCupid user Nadav Nirenberg showed his mastery of both when he caught the thief who stole his iPhone. Nirenberg, 27, of Brooklyn, New York, left his iPhone 4 in a cab on New Year’s Eve, and the person who found it didn’t turn out to be a Good Samaritan. But Nirenberg realized the thief was using the phone when he got alerts from OKCupid, an online dating service, about messages he knew he hadn’t sent....

The nation recoiled in horror when an Oregon teacher was arrested for tattooing “I (heart) Mom” on students in his science class using a Tesla coil. Sam Dufner faced felony charges and the rage of parents everywhere. Until, that is, the students themselves made it clear they volunteered for the electric branding and everyone was “laughing when they went up there,” according to Cheyenne Ward, a student in the class. The charges against Dufner have since been dropped, so we can all go back to loving our moms and learning science, maybe even at the same time....

In an action involving a trial court order committing defendant to Porterville State Hospital, the trial court erred where: 1) due process rights are violated when the trial court determines that the charges pending against defendant involved death, great bodily injury, or an act which poses a serious threat of bodily harm to another person under Welfare and Institutions Code sec. 6500 as it is a matter for a jury; and 2) before a jury determines whether a person meets the criteria of Welfare and Institutions Code sec....

Call them whatever adjective you desire, but one descriptor is beyond debate: persistent. More than a month after the U.S. Supreme Court held that the group lacked standing to argue against gay marriage in federal court, and two weeks after another state Supreme Court challenge was rejected, the backers of California’s much discussed Proposition 8 had not yet conceded the fight. However, Wednesday’s ruling by the California Supreme Court may finally end any serious hopes they may have had of reinstating the ban....

Quinn Emanuel’s dress code is probably the envy of all suit-loathing associates everywhere. William Urquhart, one of the founding partners of the firm says that nearly everything goes at the firm: T-shirts, jeans with raggedy edges, and everything else in between. Though, probably not lingerie. Or swimwear. Let’s face it, being a stickler for proper dress code can just be a pain. Walking to court or sitting around the office in stuffy business casual - or even at some places - full on suits - is probably uncomfortable....

A federal courthouse construction site is now a crime scene, after police nabbed two college students caught having sex on a picnic table there. Mug shots of the couple – Jarred Dauth and Maya Manseur – are now exposed on the internet. The public peep show took place in Jacksonville, Fla., in the wee hours of the morning, WJAX-TV reports. That’s when Dauth, 21, and Manseur, 23, drank some booze and scaled the worksite’s six-foot fence....
