$32.72. College athletes aren’t paid, at least not yet, but surely Jameis Winston could’ve afforded $32.72 worth of crab legs and crawfish? Winston, the Heisman Trophy winner and Florida State University quarterback, ran into more legal trouble Tuesday night, when he reportedly shoplifted a little more than $32 worth of food from a local supermarket, reports USA Today. Store employees contacted law enforcement who met Winston at his residence; the quarterback claimed that he “forgot” to pay, but admitted to taking the food....

In 2005, Harry Barko, an employee of government contractor Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR), filed a False Claims Act complaint. KBR, which at the time was a subsidiary of Halliburton, provided military support services in Iraq. Barko alleged that KBR was inflating costs and receiving kickbacks. This case, for which Barko filed a cert. petition with the U.S. Supreme Court, isn’t even about all that yet. This is a case about the limits of attorney-client privilege....

One hundred and ninety-six million dollars. That astounding number is the amount a Texas jury awarded plaintiff Scott D. Martin who sued Andrews Kurth for malpractice. Plaintiffs have just moved the court to file an entry of judgment. The proposed order seeks an actual damages award of $196 million, an additional $20.7 in prejudgment interest, and more interest as yet to be determined. The original controversy started when Scott Martin and his brother Reuben got into an intense dispute over management of the family business....

Shooting dog porn isn’t on this North Carolina couple’s criminal bucket list anymore. A soldier and his wife were arrested Monday after one spouse allegedly filmed the other having sex with a dog. Ruben Chance James Fox and Amber Nicole Fox, both 23, were arrested by police in Raeford after cybercrime investigators in Virginia noticed the couple’s alleged canine porn shoot had been posted online, The Fayetteville Observer reports. Fortunately, the couple’s dogs and cats have been relocated to a local shelter....

It has been another bad week for the NFL and crime. When you start the week with Dez Bryant beating his own mother, you know it can only go downhill for there. Today, Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt was arrested for drunk driving. Hours later, it was reported that yet another Detroit Lion, Corey Williams, also faced a DUI charge. These two followed an incident earlier this week when Seattle Seahawk Marshawn Lynch was arrested for a DUI in California....

You may have thought that the NFL lockout was over when Judge Susan Nelson issued an injunction ordering the league to permit players to access team facilities. But now that the 8th Circuit is involved and has issued an administrative stay reinstating the lockout, things are about to get a little bit more complicated. The effect of the administrative stay granted by the 8th Circuit on April 29 is to temporarily reinstate the lockout while the court takes the time to carefully consider both parties’ requests....

NFL QB Ben Roethlisberger has still not been be interviewed by authorities after being accused of sexually assaulting a college student at a dance club, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. According to the Associated Press, a 20-year-old woman attending Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville is the alleged victim and claims Roethlisberger is the alleged perpetrator. Roethlisberger’s off-season home is in Milledgeville about 80 miles southeast of Atlanta....

According to the Hawaii state legislature, “the cigarette is considered the deadliest artifact in human history.” And legislators have come up with a plan to battle that artifact, effectively phasing out cigarettes on the islands over the next five years. A new bill introduced last week would raise the cigarette-buying age to 30 next year, raise it again to 40, 50, and 60 in each subsequent year, and then finally make the legal age to purchase cigarettes 100 by 2024....

Raymond Williams dug up a pet chinchilla. A dead one, that is. The 20-year-old apparently spent part of Sunday digging up the deceased pet before taking photos and texting them to its owner. The pair, whose relationship is unknown, had gotten into a dispute the day before. He’s accused of stealing $260 from her after he failed to steal her cell phone. The dead chinchilla pictures are presumed to be related to this incident....

Officially, June 14th is Flag Day. But one patriotic teen decided to make every day flag day – until his high school stepped in. Officials at South Carolina’s York Comprehensive High School unbolted a 4-foot by 6-foot American flag from Peyton Robinson’s truck, allegedly because the Stars and Stripes were offending some people. But now it’s the school defending its national pride while backtracking from the flag ban. A 40 year-old Canadian woman allegedly took shoplifting to a bold new level. The woman lined up an interview at an Ontario retail clothing store. Then she went to the store to shoplift for some clothes. Next, she wore the shoplifted clothes to the interview. Finally, she helped herself to a little more shoplifting on the way out of the interview.
