Everyone knows that you can get arrested for driving a car under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. But, even though DUI stands for “driving under the influence,” you can actually get a DUI for “driving” things other than cars as well. For example, the police recently arrested a man for a DUI because he was riding his horse on a Southern California freeway.
DUIs Aren’t Exclusive to Cars
In addition to getting a DUI for riding a horse drunk, it’s also possible to get a DUI for other uncommon vehicles. First of all, it’s generally possible to get a DUI for driving/operating anything that’s motorized while under the influence - and this includes a motorized wheelchair. It’s also possible to get a DUI while driving a lawn mower or a boat.
A person can also get a DUI for riding a bicycle while drunk. While drunk biking doesn’t usually pose the same risks as operating a motorized vehicle under the influence, it can still have serious consequences. First of all, the rider can hurt him or herself or cause property damage. Drunk biking can also pose a risk to others on the road, whether the other people are drivers, pedestrians, or other people riding bikes.
