If you’re a big fan of David E. Kelley legal dramas like Ally McBeal, The Practice, and Boston Legal, then you are in for some good news. Actress Kathy Bates will star in a new legal drama called Harry’s Law, Reuters reports. The new television drama centers on how an older patent attorney gets fired from her big law firm job and has to set up her own practice in an abandoned shoe store in Cincinnati.

While Kelley originally wrote the lead character to be a man, he decided to cast Kathy Bates in the role after he had a hard time finding the right actor to play the role. While there is that one change, the storyline remains the same and will probably be relevant to a lot of attorneys.

So while some new associates may be packing their boxes at the start of this New Year because of layoffs, they can console themselves with the fact that they are not packing those boxes at the ripe age of 60. Kathy Bates told reporters that the show is supposed to be about recovery and survival after a fall; even at a later age in life. She said her character is “forceful but eccentric and lovable,” the ABA Journal reports.

So if you are one of those unlucky attorneys who can relate with losing a job right now, or you just love watching legal dramas, you may want to tune in to Harry’s Law which premieres on Jan. 17 on NBC.
