Colorado man Keith Gaylor planned to cheat on his longtime girlfriend. She was supposed to be out of the house for a while, so he called up a woman he met on Craigslist and invited her over.
Police think he was trying to convince his girlfriend that the other woman was an intruder.
Well, he also managed to convince the police officers. Since he confusingly told police that the intruder had a gun, the department dispatched five officers to his home.
There are several things wrong with this scenario.
Second, you don’t call the cops on the unsuspecting woman when she shows up for the date that you arranged. That’s just bad manners.
Third, you don’t waste valuable police resources by reporting nonexistent crimes. There’s a reason that Gaylor is facing a misdemeanor for his actions.
Diverting police resources from real crimes in order to arrest the harmless date could cause unintended consequences. Maybe there were real victims out there waiting for police to respond to their calls.
Hopefully, the misdemeanor charge will serve to educate Keith Gaylor as to when it’s appropriate to dial 911.
