Oh, Ryan Leaf. Arrested two times in one weekend? Such a shame. But not at all surprising.
Montana police picked up the former NFL quarterback on Sunday, just two days after he was released on a $76,000 bond. The first arrest, which occurred on Friday, involved accusations of burglary and felony possession of prescription drugs. The second arrest?
The same exact thing.
Leaf is currently serving 10 years of probation on a suspended sentence for a similar crime. In 2009, he reached a plea deal with Texas prosecutors, according to the Associated Press. As long as he complies with the terms of probation, he remains free. If he violates the terms, a Texas judge can revoke probation and sentence him to jail.
Texas prosecutors plan to ask a judge to revoke Leaf’s probation, reports the Associated Press. If the judge agrees, Leaf may be held in the Montana jail until he sits trial for the recent arrests. He can also be extradited to Texas where he will likely serve a number of years behind bars.
If Leaf’s probation is not revoked, he’ll likely still remain in jail. Local law enforcement has been investigating him for the last month, explains the Tribune. They believe he may have broken into other homes in search of prescription medications.
Between Ryan Leaf’s arrests, the investigation and his probation, it’s doubtful any judge will trust him to wander freely.
