Dallas Mavericks guard DeShawn Stevenson, arrested for public intoxication late Tuesday night, apparently likes to fraternize with the little people…even if he doesn’t know them.
Still partying two days after helping the Dallas Mavericks win the NBA Championship, he was picked up for stumbling around alone in an apartment complex in Irving, Texas. (Where were teammates Jason Terry or Jason Kidd?)
There is also no indication that he knows anyone who lives at the complex.
Incoherent and unable to pass a sobriety test, the Star-Telegram reports that he was hauled in and released 7 hours later on a $475 bond.
Public intoxication is a Class C misdemeanor in Texas, which is punishable by a fine not to exceed $500, and carries with it no jail time.
However, police are given the authority to detain intoxicated persons who they feel are a danger to themselves and/or others. The person may be held until they can be released to a responsible party, or until they are sober enough to care for themselves.
So, now that DeShawn Stevenson, arrested as he may have been, has paid his fine, he should be okay to return to the Mavericks’ parade and celebration. But, for his sake, let’s all hope that he manages to find someone to party with–it would be kind of embarrassing to yet again end up drunk and alone.
