The BCS Championship Games lived up to the hype. A tight, back-and-forth battle ended with a last-second, 19-yard field, closer than an extra point. But don’t think the drama is over. Now the question turns to whether Auburn will be allowed to keep its National Championship.

Don’t think the Cam Newton controversy is over. Cecil Newton, the father of Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, attended the game, despite the wishes of the Auburn Tigers. According to announcer Brent Musberger, the involved parties, including Cecil himself, said that it was in “the best interests” of Cam Newton and Auburn if his father did not attend.

But there he was, watching his son lead the BCS Title game-winning drive for the Tigers. Cam Newton, fresh off the victory, went up into the stands to hug his Dad, SportsByBrooks reports.

Speculation as to whether or not Cecil Newton would be present in Arizona for Auburn’s BCS Championship had reached a fever pitch. Auburn Athletic Director Jay Jacobs had declared that Cecil would skip the game at both parties agreement.

But if the NCAA does decide to take the title away from Auburn and Cam Newton, it will be Cecil Newton’s pay-for-play solicitations that will have a bearing on that decision. Not a Dad cheering on his son at a football game.
